Academic Staff Member - Assistant Professor with a Focus on Biometrics

Research field: biometrics, new trends in the evaluation of biological or environmental data, microbiology, study of harmful microorganisms for plants, study of beneficial microorganisms for plants, basic techniques for biotechnology applications (PCR, sequencing, cultivation of microorganisms, etc.)

The Mendeleum Research Institute focuses on research in the field of plant biotechnology, where the principles of molecular genetics are used in breeding and health monitoring of horticultural crops or tissue culture for in vitro elimination of viral diseases.

What will be your job role?

  • teaching biometrics, statistical methods and basic physiological processes
  • supervising students' final theses (bachelor's, master's, dissertation)
  • conducting research in the fields of biometrics, stress physiology and biotechnology, leading innovative projects in agriculture, food science or ecology
  • preparation of research proposals, grant applications and subsequent project management
  • cooperation with industrial partners and academic institutions
  • involvement in interdisciplinary projects and applied research, particularly in the field of advanced technologies in plant biology and agriculture

What are our requirements?

  • Ph.D. degree in horticulture, biostatistics
  • active knowledge of Czech and English language
  • thorough knowledge of biometric techniques and their application in the analysis of biological and environmental data, including knowledge of new trends and advances in data evaluation
  • expertise in plant physiological processes at the molecular and cellular level, with emphasis on plant stress physiology
  • expertise in microbiology
  • experience in biotechnological techniques
  • demonstrated experience in conducting research in the areas of biometrics, microbiology and biotechnology, including project design and management.
  • experience of publishing in scientific journals and presenting results at conferences
  • leading interdisciplinary teams and mentoring junior colleagues, fellows and students

Required research experience:

  • at least 8 years of research experience in the above areas

Job status: 0,2 (8 hours per week)

Expected start: December 2024

Employment contract: fixed term 3 year with the possibility of extension to 5 years
