The new laboratory of Cholinergic Signaling at the Institute of Physiology, Czech Academy of Sciences is seeking suitable candidates for the position of:

Technician/laboratory assistant

The selected candidate will primarily be responsible for the breeding and routine genotyping of genetic mouse models. The position is also open to students, but requires daily presence in the laboratory from Monday to Friday. It is a 0.5 FTE position.

Job responsibilities:

  • Working with laboratory mice: maintaining records of breeding and propagation, monitoring breeding cages, weaning pups, and collecting samples for genotyping.
  • DNA isolation and genotyping of mouse lines using PCR/ELFO.
  • Assisting with behavioral testing of mice in automated operant and touchscreen boxes.
  • Other routine laboratory tasks and simple administrative duties.

Requirements:

  • Secondary or higher education in a natural science or related field.
  • Ability to communicate actively with laboratory members in Czech and English and participate in laboratory meetings.
  • Attention to detail and consistency in work.
  • Ability to work independently and an active interest in laboratory activities.
  • Experience with laboratory animals is not required but is an advantage.
  • A valid certificate of competence for working with animals is also an advantage.
