Academic Staff Member – Head of the Department of Language and Cultural Studies, Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.
We teach four world languages at the Department of Language and Cultural Studies . Their knowledge will certainly come in handy, whether you work in the Czech Republic, in the nearest neighbouring countries, in the EU institutions in Brussels or in developing countries in different parts of the world. These languages are English, German, French and Spanish. In addition to traditional general and specialised language courses, we also teach specialized subjects. These include Academic Writing in English, Presentation Skills in English, and other subjects focusing on language and cultural studies. In our research and publication activities, we focus on three areas: applied linguistics, cultural studies and foreign language didactics. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to lead a team of academics, develop the research activities of the institute and contribute to the strategic goals of the faculty.
What will be your job role?
- planning, organisation and supervision of all aspects of the Department’s activities
- managing the Department’s budget and resources
- pedagogical and scientific research activities in the field according to the thematic focus of the Department
- ensuring high quality teaching and mentoring of students
- managing and motivating the academic and research staff and employees of the Department, and their regular appraisal
- supporting research activities and obtaining grants for the Department
- cooperation with other departments and faculty management
What are our requirements?
- a university degree at Ph.D. level in a field of study focused on the Department’s activities (associate professor/professor rank is an advantage)
- excellent knowledge of Czech and English, ability to teach and publish in both languages
- experience in managing an institute/department
- experience in budget management and efficient use of resources
- ability to understand labour law and the economic rules governing the management of a public university
- ability to provide quality teaching and to support the professional development of the team
- an active approach to developing cooperation with external partners and involving students in practice
- motivation for further personal development and qualification growth
- representation of the Department at national and international level
- demonstrable research activities according to the thematic focus of the department
