Postdoctoral Position in Alzheimer’s Disease, Aging and Human Gut Microbiota Metabolites

We are searching for motivated candidates for the Postdoctoral Positions in Alzheimer’s Disease, Aging and Human Gut Microbiota Metabolites. Research projects
  • Clinically relevant biochemical, immunological and cellular biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease and agin
  • Functional characterization of human gut microbiota metabolites
The postdoctoral associate will design and perform mass spectrometry, biochemistry and molecular biology experiments and advanced data processing for characterization of metabolites, lipids and proteins primarily involved in senescence, pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and immunomodulation. The candidate will primarily use modern analytical techniques based on mass spectrometry and apply them to relevant in vitro cell culture, animal models as well as clinical samples. The emerging stem cell model based on cerebral organoids will allow for hypothesis driven experiments transformative to the field of Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis and progression. The candidate will perform cutting-edge research on multidisciplinary project combining advanced analytical technology with cell biology and medicine. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated candidate to contribute to excellence in science. The research group led by Dr. Zdenek Spáčil is engaged in metabolomics and targeted proteomics and pioneering the exposome(i.e. non-genetic factors affecting human health). RECETOX, the research center at the Masaryk University in Brno (the Czech Republic), is focused on the research and education in cross-cutting area of Environment and Health. RECETOX operates high-quality research infrastructure, which is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, possesses excellent expertise and provides access to facilities, services and training to the international research community, collaborators and other partners. More about RECETOX on   Requirements and qualifications The candidate must (i) hold a Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics or related field obtained within past 5 years; (ii) must have research experience; (iii) track record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals (WoS, SCOPUS). An international experience (outside the Czech Rep.) is an advantage. The candidate has to prove the interest and motivation to tackle scientific challenges, independent planning of experiments to explore given hypotheses and technical skills to conduct experimental work. The candidate should have the practical experience and understand the theory of mass spectrometry-based techniques and modern liquid chromatography concepts. The basic programming skills (i.e. R, Python) and experience with statistical data processing and bioinformatics are strongly preferred. The ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, solve technical issues, improve existing and develop new approaches as well as science writing is required. Additional requirements are: good written and oral communication skills, excellent documentation skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.   What we offer We can offer you the work on challenging scientific project and important healthcare problems with the opportunity to publish results in prestigious international journals; work in the international and dynamic team and informal research environment with state of the art instrumentation and collaborative projects with international partners (e.g. ETH Zurich, University College London, Univ. of Vienna, Univ. of Washington); opportunities towards independent scientific career and competitive salary including employee benefits. Contract duration: This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of extension depending on the performance (project funding until 2022).   Applications and selection process The application consisting of (i) the curriculum vitae, (ii) cover letter, (iii) two reference letters or the names of at least two referees and (iiii) the copy of Ph.D. certificate, (iiiii) as well as formal and scientific questions should be sent via email to Tato e-mailová adresa je chráněna před spamboty.
