Competitive candidates are expected to
  • receive a PhD diploma between 30 Sep 2014 – 31 Dec 2019 (or earlier by parental leave period),
  • have international research experience & excellent knowledge of English,
  • spend at least 2 years outside the Czech Republic as a researcher or a PhD student in 3 years prior to the beginning of the position,
  • publish at least 2 reviewed articles between Jan 2018 – Apr 2020,
  • start his/her work at the faculty between 01 Sep 2020 – 01 Jan 2021, or by an agreement,
  • ask innovative biological questions,
  • have a vision of own high-risk-high-gain independent research projects,
  • demonstrate a promising track record including publications & funding,
  • find synergy with other research groups at the faculty,
  • apply for international & national research grants (e.g. ERC, EMBO, GACR Junior Star),
  • establish, develop & lead his/her own independent research team.

The running projects include non-human primates but experience with behavioural studies in other species is welcome. The candidate is expected to collect behavioural data in field and laboratory settings, conduct behavioural experiments, collect and process samples for hormonal analysis. Using several models of bloodsucking insects, the following questions will be addressed. What are the factors determining symbiont’s genome evolution? How do the acquisitions/losses/replacements affect the pattern of the symbionts adaptation? How is the microbiome composition determined by inherited bacteria and by contaminations? How stable are the microbiomes in vectors and what is their role in the vector competence? Experience and skills desired: bioinformatics, genomics, metagenomics. We are looking for a postdoc to study consequences of human impacts, such as warming, eutrophication and pollution, on freshwater ecosystems from individual to community level. We use experiments (including new outdoor mesocosms), field studies and modelling; our primary focus is on zooplankton and macroinvertebrates. Requirements: PhD in Ecology, Limnology or related field, and strong interest in quantitative ecology. The postdoc is expected to participate in data analysis (and subsequent publishing) from our longterm experimental plots and in the field research in currently running and newly established experiments on functioning and trait variation of plant communities. We require excellent skills in data analysis, proficiency in scientific writing, ability to work in the field, and cooperativeness. The postdoctoral fellow will become a part of the Centre for Mathematical Biology. Ongoing collaboration with existing faculties is expected but own research in any area of interest is welcome. An overall goal is to broaden scope of mathematical biology at the Centre and strengthen math teaching at the Institute. He/she would join our team at the Centre for Polar Ecology and would be expected to conduct projects using our research infrastructure on Svalbard. We require PhD in a relevant discipline (microbiology, ecology or biogeochemistry), strong publication record and good field, laboratory and data analysis skills.
