The Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences is looking for a postdoctoral researcher (m/f) to join our Ultrarelativistic Heavy-Ion Physics group. Our group has been studying the properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a hot and dense state of nuclear matter produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the RHIC accelerator at BNL and the LHC at CERN, for many years. The successful candidate will join research carried out within our participation in the ALICE experiment at the LHC. In addition to data analysis, our group is involved in the upgrade of the ALICE ITS3 inner tracking detector for LHC Run 4 and in the preparation of the future ALICE3 experiment, which will replace the current ALICE experiment after 2030.
Your scope of work?
- Analysis of experimental data from the ALICE experiment, with a focus on hard probes (jets, heavy quarks, or quarkonia),
- work on the upgrade of the ITS3 inner tracking detector and on the preparation of the future ALICE3 experiment (radiation-tolerance testing, simulations, and software development),
- preparation of scientific publications and presentations at international conferences,
- preparation of grant proposals.
Required qualifications and skills:
- completed PhD in particle or nuclear physics (obtained within the last five years)
- knowledge of C++, ALICE O2, Python, and ROOT; knowledge of machine-learning methods is an advantage
- Advantage: experience with silicon detectors
- proficient English & ability to work in an international team,
- clear PC (police clearance), independent worker.
