Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences announces an open position:

Senior Scientist in Metabolomics and Mass Spectrometry

This position is a great fit for you if:

  • you have demonstrated hands-on experience in metabolomics and mass spectrometry, and want to apply it in a leading core facility environment
  • you are confident advising researchers from academia and industry – from study design through data generation to result interpretation
  • you enjoy building and improving analytical workflows and are motivated to introduce new methodologies as the field evolves
  • you take ownership of your work, maintain high standards in documentation and data quality, and can operate independently
  • you want to work with talented and creative colleagues in a truly international environment (35% of our employees come from outside the Czech Republic, and 25% do not speak Czech)

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced metabolomics scientist to strengthen our CMS Structural Mass Spectrometry Core Facility. You will take a leading role in developing, implementing, and optimizing metabolomics services – from method development and workflow setup to user support and scientific consultation.

This is a hands-on scientific role with real responsibility: you will work with Bruker mass spectrometry platforms, collaborate closely with facility users, and contribute to the long-term development of our metabolomics capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting up and optimizing methods and workflows for the detection and quantification of metabolites.
  • Running metabolomics analyses for users.
  • Consulting with users on project design, sample preparation, and data interpretation.
  • Troubleshooting instrument and method issues.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation of methods, workflows, and results.
  • Keeping up with developments in the metabolomics field and implementing new approaches.
  • Ensuring the instruments are properly maintained and in good working order.
  • Preparing reports on analyses, results, and facility performance.

Desired skills and experience

  • Expertise in metabolism: Strong knowledge and experience in metabolic research is essential for this position.
  • Instrument Experience: Demonstrated experience with metabolic research, hands-on experience with mass spectrometry instruments and liquid chromatography systems.
  • Method Development: Proven ability to independently develop and optimize new assays.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in data processing, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Quality Control: Understanding quality control and assurance procedures to ensure the generation of reliable and reproducible results.

Attitude and drive

  • Client-Centric Approach: A dedication to understanding the unique research needs and objectives of internal and external customers, ensuring that metabolomics experiments align with their goals.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent communication skills for active engagement with researchers, addressing inquiries, providing timely updates, and offering assistance throughout the research process.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities based on feedback and evolving client expectations.
  • Problem Solving: Proactive problem-solving mindset to identify potential issues or challenges and collaboratively develop solutions with clients.
  • Client Satisfaction: Strong commitment to exceeding client expectations by consistently delivering high-quality metabolomics data and results that drive successful research outcomes.

Start date

Preferred: October 2026 (negotiable)

Our Offer

  • Professional development opportunities through training, workshops, and research opportunities within a multidisciplinary team.
  • An inspiring working environment within a scientific center with access to state-of-the-art technologies and well-equipped laboratories.
  • Collaboration with experts from various fields, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and creative collaboration.
  • Engage in innovative research and development in the field of metabolomics.
  • Five weeks of vacation, competitive bonuses, and meal allowance.
  • Flexible work arrangements to support a healthy work-life balance.
