Postdoctoral Researcher – High Harmonic Generation Beamline (332)

The Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC (ELI ERIC) is the world’s largest and most advanced high-power laser research infrastructure. As an international user facility dedicated to multi-disciplinary science, ELI provides access to world-class high-power, high-repetition-rate laser systems and enables cutting-edge research, as well as breakthrough technological innovations. The ELI ERIC operates as a single multi-site organization with two complementary facilities specialized in different fields of research with extreme light: ELI Beamlines in Dolní Břežany (Czech Republic) and ELI ALPS in Szeged (Hungary).

ELI Beamlines Facility operates four cutting-edge high-power femtosecond laser systems reaching unprecedented intensities. The operational laser systems make unique femtosecond sources of X-rays and accelerated particles available to scientific users for pioneering research in physical, chemical, materials, life and medical sciences as well as physics of dense plasmas, warm dense matter, and laboratory astrophysics. The ELI Beamlines Facility employs over 350 researchers, engineers and other professionals from more than 38 countries.

In our team we have the following position available:

Postdoctoral Researcher – High Harmonic Generation Beamline (332)

The ELI Beamlines Facility is seeking a scientifically oriented and technically capable postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the operation and further development of its High Harmonic Generation (HHG) Beamline. The successful candidate will combine independent scientific research with active participation in user operation and technical development of the beamline.

Job description:

Scientific Research and Development

  • Conduct research in high harmonic generation, ultrafast XUV science and related applications.
  • Develop and optimize HHG sources, diagnostics and experimental methods, with emphasis on photon flux, stability, spectral properties and beam quality.
  • Analyse experimental data, publish results in scientific journals, present at conferences and contribute to research proposals.
  • Explore new applications of coherent XUV radiation in fields such as ultrafast spectroscopy, imaging, materials science and semiconductor research.

HHG Beamline User Operation

  • Actively participate in the preparation and execution of user experiments.
  • Support external users with experimental setup, beamline alignment, source optimization, data acquisition and initial data analysis.
  • Troubleshoot experimental problems and ensure reliable beamline performance during user campaigns.
  • Identify technical limitations and contribute to practical improvements and beamline upgrades.
  • Support the integration and commissioning of new optical components, diagnostics and experimental equipment.
  • Work closely with scientists, engineers and technicians to ensure safe and reliable beamline operation.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in physics, engineering or a related field.
  • Research experience in ultrafast laser physics, nonlinear optics, XUV science or a closely related area.
  • Hands-on experience with optical setups employing femtosecond lasers or short-wavelength radiation sources.
  • Strong technical and experimental problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to participate actively in user operation and beamline maintenance.
  • Strong scientific publication record and good communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international and multidisciplinary team.

Experience with HHG sources, high-power laser systems, vacuum technology, XUV optics, detectors, automated experimental control or operation of a user facility is an advantage.

We offer:

  • Opportunity to work in this unique international scientific institution.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Good working environment.
  • Career growth, professional education.
  • Meal allowance, pension contribution.
  • 5 weeks of holidays and 6 days of personal leave.
  • Support of leisure time activities.
